Updating Zoom no worky

Nowhere on Zoom's company website does it tell you how to reinstall the Desktop Application on a Ubuntu client effectively. When updating to the latest version of Zoom and starting Zoom from the command line the first time, a transient error message appears that says something like "Zoom could not transfer local database." This led me to believe that some configuration directory was not being updated correctly or not at all. This turned out to be correct because, although the Zoom application started and settings were changed, none of these settings, including my login information, were saved after the Zoom application ended. It was not until I saw the Zoom troubleshooting log web page that they showed a .zoom directory path in the user's home directory. I realized this is likely the location that was not being updated. After uninstalling Zoom (apt purge zoom) and removing this .zoom directory, I then successfully installed Zoom, which reinitialized this directory. All settings are now sticking.
